Overview

The ODIZ Safety Drill Press Flip-Up Guard is an interlocked, clear polycarbonate guard that shields the operator from the rotating chuck, tooling, and flying chips, and still lets the operator see the work. When the guard is flipped up, the integrated safety interlock switch signals the machine's safety circuit. When the guard is down, the operator can see through it and the interlock confirms it is in position.

The guard is made of steel and polycarbonate and has a safety yellow powder-coat finish. It is built to mount to a drill press and to be adjusted on site.

Key Features

• Clear Lexan polycarbonate panel. The formed, 8" wide panel is 3/16" thick and wraps around the work area. It gives the operator an unobstructed view of the drilling operation.
• Integrated safety interlock. An IDEM miniature safety limit switch with a roller plunger is built into the hinge. It has 2 normally closed (NC) and 1 normally open (NO) contacts, so it can connect to a machine safety circuit.
• Flip-up design. The guard swings up and out of the way for tool changes, setup, and part loading. It then returns to the closed position over the work area.
• Adjustable arm. A 12 mm (0.47") steel arm carries the guard. The open-position angle is adjustable to 30°, so the guard can be set to suit the machine and operator.
• Rotating bracket and mounting plate. The rotating bracket is held by a slotted mounting plate. The plate has through-holes of 11/32" x 19/32" for secure installation and fine positioning.
• Optional set screw. A threaded hole lets you lock the hinge position if the application needs it.
• Safety yellow finish. The powder-coated steel is easy to see on the shop floor and is durable.
• Compact and lightweight. The guard weighs about 5.7 lb.

How It Works

1. Guard closed. The Lexan panel sits over the point of operation. The interlock switch is engaged and allows machine operation.
2. Guard opened. The operator lifts the panel up and away on the rotating bracket. The cam profile on the hinge actuates the interlock switch, so the machine stops or is prevented from starting.
3. Return to closed. Once the guard is back in place, the machine can run again.
