Machine Safety System Electrical Validation
More Information
Machine Guarding Risk Assessment
-
- Identify machine hazards related to the machine
- Assess current guarding measures and recommend improvements to minimize risks.
- Conduct interviews with operators to understand machine usage and potential safety challenges.
- Provide recommendations for physical guarding upgrades, administrative controls, and operational procedures.
Electrical Validation
This service ensures the electrical safety system operates as intended and meets ISO 13849-2 standards. It includes the following key phases:
- Electrical Validation Documentation and Review
- Review of machine and line schematics, ladder logic, part numbers, and safety system schematics.
- Collection or confirmation of software programming details (e.g., PLC logic) and system layout documentation.
- Offsite evaluation by Electrical Engineers and CMSE to ensure redundancy, fault detection, and stopping power in the safety system.
- Fault exclusion review, environmental impact assessment, and safety redundancy analysis.
- Electrical Validation Analysis
- Assessment of the system’s Safety Category and Performance Level (PL).
- Diagnostic coverage evaluation to confirm fault detection mechanisms meet safety standards.
- Onsite Testing
- Onsite validation conducted by either the CMSE or Automation and Controls Specialist to document the status of each safety component.
- Testing includes pass/fail documentation, along with recommendations for corrective actions if needed.
This validation process will ultimately provide the technical foundation needed to make targeted improvements, strengthening the safety systems through the integration of enhanced controls and hard guarding solutions in future steps.
DELIVERABLES
Upon completion of the validation process, the following deliverables will be provided:
- Risk Assessment Report
- Identification of hazards and recommendations for physical guarding upgrades, administrative controls, and operational procedures.
- Electrical Validation Report
- Pass/fail documentation for each safety component.
- Calculation of Safety Category and Performance Level (PL) with supporting documentation.
- Fault Exclusion Justification
- Justifications for any fault exclusions, if applicable, based on system configuration (e.g., relay contact welding exclusions).
- Fault Exclusion Justification
- If any fault exclusions are applied, detailed explanations and justifications will be provided (e.g., exclusions such as welded relay contacts due to low probability of occurrence).
